Battlefield tours 2025
The Start of the Tour Season
In January 2025, we commenced our season with a series of battlefield tours. One of the key highlights was a visit to Arnhem in the Netherlands, where we explored the significant historical events surrounding Operation Market Garden and the airborne operations. This tour was conducted privately, allowing for a more in-depth experience.
Our journey began from Brussels, starting at Joe's Bridge, and we followed the renowned Hell's Highway, making stops in Nijmegen and Eindhoven along the way. The tour culminated in Arnhem, where we dedicated two days and nights to examining various battle sites. Staying near the iconic Arnhem bridge provided a poignant perspective on the events that transpired there in September 1944.
Battlefield Tours in March
We then travelled to the serene yet historic Ardennes forest in Belgium, where we spent three immersive days exploring the sites of the Battle of the Bulge. Visiting in December or January adds a chilling authenticity to your experience, as we navigate through the snow-dusted terrain that once served as critical battlegrounds. We toured in early March, and it was still frozen solid. Walking amongst the remnants of foxholes and fortified positions, we could almost hear the echoes of the fierce combat that took place. The biting cold and the stark, wintry landscape highlighted the resilience of the Allied soldiers who endured extreme conditions while facing relentless German counterattacks. Each location we visited offered a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made during this pivotal moment in history.
March is a particularly busy month for our organization as we conduct our annual Battlefield tour, which spans from the North East of England to a new location each year. This year, we commemorated the 85th anniversary of the Dunkirk retreat, accommodating a full coach of 52 passengers. Our group stayed in Ypres, Belgium, and spent three days exploring the significant sites related to Dunkirk. Additionally,
Every March, we make it a tradition to visit The Somme, often returning several times throughout the month. Each stay at the charming B&B known as No56 on the Somme enhances our experience, with its warm hospitality and well-appointed rooms. its inviting atmosphere, combined with its convenient location near the historical sites of World War I, makes it the perfect home base for our explorations. We relish the opportunity to delve into the rich history of the area while enjoying the comforts and cozy ambiance that No56 provides
A Busy Three Months of Tours in Various Countries
April was a good steady month of touring, mainly in the Cotswolds and London this year. We changed our business plan in 2024, and opened new areas of business such as Northumberland, (Roman Wall) etc, the Cotswolds and London.
May was a hectic month of touring and for transfers. Using four to five different tour guides on a daily basis - we were completely booked out with tours in various countries - England, Scotland, Wales, France and Belguim.
June was again full on - which you cannot complain about! We had multiple tour guides out working and chauffeurs on throughout the month. The areas mostly covered in England and Scotland were the Yorkshire Dales, Northumberland, the Lake District, Devon and Cornwall, the Cotswolds, the Scottish border areas and the Peak district, with LHR collections and drop offs from our chauffeurs. All these areas are well trodden paths for Travel England Tours.
Numerous Great Tours in July
July we have also been very busy throughout the month. We have visited Blenheim palace and Sir Winston Churchill's grave on numerous tours this month. The beautiful village of Castle Combe in the Cotswold is also popular with our clients. We have had a couple of great tours to Normandy this month as well. We changed our accommodation this time and stayed at Ouistreham the port of Caen which was an excellent location to stay.
August though to November,
September proved to be another action-packed month for us, with a significant focus on our American D-Day tours in France. We explored iconic sites like Omaha Beach and the American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer, where we shared stories of bravery and sacrifice that marked this pivotal moment in history. In addition to our efforts in France, we also ventured into the picturesque Cotswolds, renowned for its charming villages and stunning landscapes. Our month culminated in an immersive two-day WWII tour of London, where participants visited important locations such as the Imperial War Museum and the Cabinet War Rooms, gaining a deeper understanding of the impact of the war on the city and its inhabitants.
We will be posting a monthly blog about our tours and the locations which we have visited over the previous months. We have had a very busy few months so far this year, with lots more to come before we finish in November 2024.
